Yarings Building

Identity and wayfinding design

In May of 2012, thirteen23 found a new home — the second floor of the Yarings building, downtown on Congress Avenue. As the first new tenants in a space that had been long vacant, we were given the honor of rebranding the building as part of the renovations process.

Though the “Yarings” name was kept as an homage to its former incarnation (a department store), a refreshed logo composed of equilateral triangles gives the brand new life. The triangles form a robust system that is extensible, as seen in the diagram of building tenants, which is composed of the same triangles in a different configuration.

We chose timeless, bold, typographic signage for the building’s awning that faces Congress Avenue. When viewed from afar, it’s a prominent feature of the building, and up close passersby get a closer view of the list of individual businesses that call the Yarings building home.
